Bentonite is an absorbent aluminium phyllosilicate, impure clay consisting mostly of montmorillonite. The main uses of bentonite are for drilling mud, binder (e.g. foundry-sand bond, iron ore pelletizer), purifier, absorbent (e.g. pet litter), and as a groundwater barrier.
