Ethidium Bromide is a fluorescent dye commonly used to stain nucleic acids in Agarose Gel electrophoresis.
The dye intercalates between the bases of the nucleic acids and when exposed to UV light fluoreses with an orange colour.
Stock solutions are prepared as a 10mg/ml aqueous solution and stored at room temperature in dark bottles.
It is generally incorporated into the Agarose gel at a concentration of 0.5ug/ml. |
